Capitol Theatre, Woodstock, Entertainment venue in Woodstock, Canada
The Capitol Theatre on Dundas Street featured a grand stage measuring 23 by 60 feet, with a balcony and dedicated boxes for spectators.
Built in 1893 as the Woodstock Opera House, the theatre transitioned to Famous Players Ltd ownership in 1927, marking its transformation into Capitol Theatre.
A six-piece orchestra accompanied silent films while the Y Beaver Minstrels singing group regularly performed shows for local audiences.
The theatre maintained two separate screening spaces after 1975 when the upper balcony section was converted into an additional theatre named Capitol 2.
The venue hosted a significant political debate in 1911 between Canadian leaders Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Sir Robert Borden.
