Ganatchio Trail, Recreational trail park in Windsor, Canada
The Ganatchio Trail is a recreational pathway that runs approximately 8 kilometers along the Detroit River with paved surfaces suitable for various users. The route passes through both urban and natural sections, welcoming cyclists, pedestrians, and joggers of different abilities.
This pathway was built in 1971 with support from Lions Club International and Rotary International organizations. It became the second major cycling route in the city following an earlier waterfront trail project.
The trail links different neighborhoods and serves as a gathering place where residents run, walk, and cycle together. It functions as a community space where people spend time outdoors and experience nature within the urban area.
The pathway includes rest areas, water stations, parking, and restroom facilities distributed along the route. All visitors should be aware of the speed limit in place to ensure safety for everyone using this space.
The pathway incorporates sections of a former city street and features a distinctive roundabout where it meets the Little River Extension. This design shows how older routes were repurposed into recreational infrastructure.
