Gannet Islands Ecological Reserve

Gannet Islands Ecological Reserve comprises seven islands in the Labrador Sea, situated roughly 40 kilometers northeast of Cartwright. The archipelago spreads across multiple clusters and provides researchers with a natural laboratory for marine biology fieldwork.

The islands take their name from HMS Gannet, a British survey vessel that mapped the region during the 19th century. This naming reflects the era of extensive hydrographic expeditions along the Atlantic coast.
