North Rustico Harbour Light

North Rustico Harbour Light is a square wooden tower standing about 10 meters tall on the coast, built with an attached dwelling and lantern room at the top. The structure sits on a stone foundation and was designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the coastal setting.

The structure was completed in 1876 and began operating in 1877 once the necessary equipment was installed for navigation. A major storm in 1899 caused severe damage that forced the entire building to be relocated and rebuilt at its current location.

The lighthouse holds meaning for the fishing communities that have relied on this coast for their livelihoods over many generations. It stands as a symbol of the region's connection to the sea and how people here have depended on safe harbor access throughout their history.

You can view the building from outside and photograph it from various points along the shore since it sits on open ground. The best time to visit is during clear weather when details are most visible and the surrounding coastal views are most striking.

The building was moved to its present location after the destructive storm of 1899, demonstrating the engineering resilience of that era. Many visitors fail to realize the lighthouse originally stood in a different place before being relocated and reconstructed.
