St. Patrick's Church, Catholic church in downtown St. John's, Canada.
The building exhibits Gothic Revival architecture with a single tower, polychromatic masonry, and wooden ceilings throughout its interior structure.
The cornerstone was laid in 1864, and after numerous construction delays due to funding issues, the church was finally completed in 1881.
The church represents the connection between Irish architectural traditions and Newfoundland colonial structures through its design by Dublin architect J.J. McCarthy.
Located at 40 Patrick Street on elevated ground, the church offers views of St. John's Harbor and stands among 19th-century residential buildings.
For 71 years, from 1888 to 1959, the structure maintained its position as the tallest building in St. John's.
