Swords and Ploughshares Museum

The Swords and Ploughshares Museum in Kars displays military vehicles and equipment that were repurposed for civilian uses after their service. The exhibits show how tanks and trucks found second lives in farming and road maintenance.

The museum was founded in 1987 and received its first steel building for vehicle storage in 1991. This early infrastructure made it possible to preserve a growing collection of military vehicles.

This museum serves as a memorial to Canadian citizen soldiers and reservists who served across generations. The collection shows how these part-time military members shaped both conflict and peacetime.

The museum is open on Sundays from May through October and can feel difficult to navigate in bad weather. Wearing sturdy shoes is advisable since some of the outdoor display areas are uneven.

A World War II tank in the collection was converted after the war and used as a snowplow. This vehicle symbolizes the practical transformation of military equipment into civilian service during the postwar period.
