Sunbury County, Nova Scotia, Historical county in eastern Canada.

Sunbury County is a historical county in eastern Canada that once extended along the northeastern coast, encompassing territories of present-day New Brunswick and Maine. The administrative center operated from Campobello Island in Passamaquoddy Bay, which served as a central hub for coastal access.

The county was established in 1765 when Nova Scotia expanded its administrative boundaries northward and westward. The region underwent major changes following the arrival of Loyalist refugees after 1784.

Loyalist settlers who arrived in 1784 shaped the communities and introduced new social structures throughout the region. Their presence transformed local traditions and created lasting cultural patterns that visitors can still observe in place names and settlement layouts.

The region was historically difficult to reach and required travel by water or rough land routes. Today visitors can access the area through modern transportation and explore sites like Campobello Island.

Massachusetts and Nova Scotia both claimed overlapping territories, yet neither actively governed these areas. This unusual arrangement allowed two jurisdictions to maintain claims over the same land without any conflict.
