The Terrasses de la Chaudière spans 163,386 square feet with three towers, including the second-tallest building in the National Capital Region at 124 meters.
Construction began in 1978 under Pierre Trudeau's initiative to increase federal government presence on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River.
The complex integrates cross-laminated timber panels in its design, reflecting the local heritage of Gatineau as a lumber industry center.
The building houses 6,500 federal employees and contains multiple government departments, including Crown-Indigenous Relations and Canadian Heritage.
The modernization project includes a prefabricated modular system with UV-based bird strike prevention measures integrated into the glass facades.
