Norfolk Board of Education, Education authority in Norfolk County, Ontario
The Norfolk Board of Education was a school administration authority that coordinated schools and educational services throughout Norfolk County. It played a central role in managing and providing instruction for schools spread across several communities in the region.
The board merged with Haldimand and Brant district school boards in 1996 to form the Grand Erie District School Board during Ontario's education restructuring. This merger was part of a larger reorganization that consolidated local school boards across the province.
The board managed twenty-one schools across multiple communities including Simcoe, Delhi, Port Dover, Langton, and St Williams, serving over 10,000 students.
Schools under its administration were spread throughout Norfolk County, including locations in Simcoe, Delhi, Port Dover, Langton, and St Williams. The wide geographic distribution meant that schools could be reached from different starting points across the area.
Port Ryerse School, which operated from 1830 to 1950, was noteworthy for accepting both white and Black Canadian students during this period. This acceptance set the school apart from many other institutions of that era.
