Peterborough Speedway, short track motor racing oval in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
Peterborough Speedway is an asphalt racing oval in Cavan, Ontario, measuring about one-third of a mile and built with steeply banked curves. The facility holds over 6,000 spectators and offers both grandstand seating and a three-story VIP tower for better views of the track.
The track opened in 1967 as Westgate Speedway with an investment of about 70,000 dollars and quickly became popular with drivers and spectators. It was renamed Peterborough Speedway in 1986 and has remained a center for regional racing and local talent development since then.
The name comes from the nearby city of Peterborough. The track serves as a gathering place for racing fans from the region who come on Saturday nights to cheer for local drivers and share in the energy of live racing. This is where community and motorsport passion visibly come together.
The track is easy to reach by highway about one and a half hours from Toronto. Races run mainly from May through October, mostly on Saturday evenings, and food stands and comfortable seating areas are available on the grounds for all visitors.
The facility is known as Canada's fastest oval of its size because of the steeply banked curves and smooth asphalt that allow drivers to maintain exceptionally high speeds. These features set it apart from other smaller racing tracks in the region.
