Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive Shipyard, Maritime museum and historic shipyard in Les Éboulements, Canada

Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive Shipyard is a historic maritime site in Les Éboulements that now operates as a museum dedicated to wooden ship construction. The location displays three preserved wooden schooners and exhibits about regional shipbuilding practices and river commerce.

The shipyard was founded in 1946 and became a major center for building cargo vessels that served trade routes between the Saint Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. This role established the region as an important hub for Canadian ship construction.

The shipyard preserves knowledge of wooden vessel construction that local craftspeople developed and refined over many decades. Today, visitors can observe how regional builders used traditional methods to create ships suited to Saint Lawrence River navigation.

The site is located on Rue de l'Église and offers parking, picnic areas, and a walking trail that runs about 4 kilometers along the river. Wear comfortable shoes since you will explore both indoor exhibits and outdoor spaces where the preserved vessels are displayed.

Inside one of the wooden schooners sits a virtual theater where visitors experience interactive presentations about navigation and cargo handling at sea. This setup brings historical shipping practices to life through modern technology in an unexpected way.
