St. Pius X Church, Roman Catholic church building in Churchill Park, St. John's, Canada.
St. Pius X Church is a Roman Catholic church in Churchill Park built in 1976 following a modern design by architect Angus Campbell. The building stands near Gonzaga High School on Smithville Crescent and is no longer in use as a place of worship.
Archbishop Patrick Skinner founded the church in 1956 as a chapel within St. Pius X Elementary School. It was later elevated to parish status and received its new building in 1976.
The Jesuits managed the parish starting in 1962, linking the church community with the educational mission of Gonzaga High School nearby. This connection shaped community life for many decades.
The building is not open to the public, having closed in 2022 as part of the archdiocese's financial restructuring. Visitors can view the exterior architecture from the street and surrounding area.
The original St. Pius X Elementary School building housed a small chapel on its ground floor before the church relocated in 1976. This first prayer space later served as a parish hall and sports area.
