Stans

Stans is a cantonal capital in the heart of Switzerland, located at around 450 meters elevation in a valley surrounded by orchards. The town center features traditional Swiss architecture with small buildings and narrow streets that create the picture of a classic Swiss town.

In 1481, an important gathering took place between Swiss cantons to resolve disagreements over military contributions. This meeting helped strengthen the bonds between the cantons and made the Swiss confederation more stable.

The Nidwaldner Museum displays regional objects and traditional dress from earlier times in a restored historic building. Visitors can learn about the region's past and how people once lived here.

Trains regularly connect this town to Lucerne and other major cities in the region. A mountain railway transports visitors up to Stanserhorn, where views of the surrounding landscape open up.

Stanserhorn features an open-air cable car cabin on top, letting passengers experience the mountain landscape freely during the ride up. This unusual design makes the journey special for anyone who wants to enjoy the views without barriers.
