Romont

Romont is a medieval town built on a hilltop in Switzerland, surrounded by old walls and towers that form a protective ring. At its center stands a castle that overlooks the surrounding countryside and serves as the town's focal point.

A ruler from Savoy founded the town around 1240 by building a castle on the hilltop. This fortress quickly became an important strategic point that controlled the region.

The glass museum inside the castle displays works from different periods and lets visitors discover how artisans created stained glass over centuries. Walking through the rooms, you notice how this craft shaped the town's identity and pride.

The town is easily reached by train, and from here you can conveniently plan trips to other major Swiss cities. The best time to visit is outside peak tourist season when the narrow streets are less crowded.

The town is officially recognized as important Swiss cultural heritage and has preserved its original medieval street layout to this day. This protection means that new construction and alterations must follow strict guidelines.
