The Affenkasten features a three-part facade on Hintere Vorstadt with steep decorative gables and neo-Gothic architectural elements.
Built in 1904 for the Feldschlösschen brewery company, the Affenkasten replaced three former town houses at this location.
The building served as a meeting point for local associations and hosted regular jazz concerts until its transformation into a bookstore.
Located at Hintere Vorstadt 18/20, the former restaurant now operates as part of the Thalia bookstore chain.
Monkey statues mounted above the entrances reference the building's name, which originated from the 1850 Brewery zum Affenkasten.
