Saint-Léonard underground lake, Underground lake in Saint-Léonard, Switzerland.
The underground lake extends for 300 meters in length and 20 meters in width, making it the largest natural navigable subterranean water body in Europe.
Jean-Jacques Pittard discovered the lake in 1943, and after safety modifications, the site opened its doors to visitors in 1949 for guided boat tours.
The underground lake offers multilingual guided tours in English, French, German, and Italian, educating visitors about local geology and Alpine formation processes.
Tours operate daily from March 15 to November 1, with tickets priced at 12 Swiss francs for adults and 7 Swiss francs for children aged 5 to 15.
The cave maintains a constant water temperature of 11 degrees Celsius throughout the year, while boats accommodate 40 passengers for 30-minute guided tours.
