Gate of Saint Alban

The Gate of Saint Alban is a medieval tower gate in Basel featuring Gothic architectural details and a rectangular plan. The structure serves as the main entrance to the Saint Alban district and connects different levels of the historic old town.

The gate was built in the early 1300s and underwent major reconstruction after the earthquake of 1356. This rebuilding strengthened its defensive purpose and shaped much of its current form.
