Erdmannlistein, Glacial erratic in Waltenschwil, Switzerland.
Erdmannlistein is a glacial erratic in Waltenschwil composed of three granite boulders arranged with two base stones supporting a larger stone on top. The formation stands out in the landscape as a distinctive natural monument created by ice age geology.
The Reuss Glacier carried these granite blocks from distant mountain sources during the last Ice Age and deposited them at this location in Aargau. The boulders have remained undisturbed since glacial times, marking the landscape for thousands of years.
The name refers to Erdmannli, legendary small beings from local folklore said to have inhabited the space beneath the boulders.
The formation can be reached by hiking trails near the railway station, and motor vehicles cannot drive directly to the stones. The walk is straightforward, and a visit takes just a few minutes.
Local tradition holds that children who run around the stones seven times while holding their breath can make the Erdmannli reappear. This unusual ritual is still performed by visitors today.
