Sasso Corbaro Castle

The stone castle sits atop a rocky hill at 600 meters elevation, featuring square towers, thick walls, and a central courtyard structure.

Architect Benedetto Ferrini constructed the castle in 1479 within six months as part of a defense system to prevent Swiss confederates from reaching Milan.

The castle contains the Sala Emma Poglia, a 17th-century wooden room with walnut paneling that was transferred to the fortress in 1944.

Visitors can access the castle through multiple routes, including walking paths, car access from Montebello Castle, tourist train, or public transportation.

The fortress stands independently from city walls, with walls measuring 1.8 meters thick on the eastern side and containing two main living quarters.
