Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz–Celerina, Oldest bobsleigh, skeleton and luge track in the world
The Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz–Celerina is a natural ice track in the Swiss Grisons region that has operated since 1904. It features 19 curves along a course over 1 kilometer long with a vertical drop of about 430 feet (130 meters), serving bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge competitions.
The track opened on January 1, 1904, making it the oldest bobsleigh run still in operation worldwide. The local bobsleigh club was founded in 1897, establishing the region as a pioneering centre for the winter sliding sports.
The track features names of famous athletes and club leaders who shaped bobsleigh history here over generations. These connections to the people who built the sport create a sense of living tradition that visitors can feel while walking the grounds.
The track is constructed each year between mid-November and early December and dismantled after March since it is built entirely from natural ice. Visitors can walk from nearby villages, watch races from designated viewing areas, or book rides with experienced pilots.
The track was redesigned in 2002 with a new section added after the Portago curve, showing how natural ice courses adapt to modern racing demands. Curves bear names like Snake Corner and Horse-Shoe Corner that reflect their shapes and help spectators find their favorite viewing spots.
