Blinnenhorn, Alpine summit in Lepontine Alps, Switzerland
Corno Cieco is a 3374-meter alpine summit in the Lepontine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The mountain has a northern subsidiary peak, Klein Blinnenhorn, standing at 3215 meters.
The mountain was first documented in 1881 when British painter and mountaineer Arthur Cust reached the summit in autumn. This ascent marked the beginning of Alpine exploration in this region.
The mountain carries two names, Blinnenhorn in German-speaking Switzerland and Corno Cieco in the Italian-speaking regions, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the Alpine border area.
Climbers can reach the summit from the Swiss side via Capanna Corno Gries SAC or from Italy through Rifugio Claudio e Bruno and Rifugio Citta di Busto. The route depends on your starting point and requires different gear depending on the chosen path.
The Gries Glacier flows from the eastern face of the mountain toward the northeast, creating a remarkable glacial landscape in the area. This ice forms an impressive natural feature that changes over time.
