The Bibliothèque de Genève maintains a collection of over two million printed volumes across multiple buildings throughout Geneva, including its main location in Bastions Park.
Founded in 1559 by John Calvin for the Geneva Academy, the library implemented one of the earliest legal deposit systems requiring all Geneva publications to be preserved.
The library holds 380 medieval manuscripts, including works by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and John Calvin, with many documents digitized for online access.
The library opens Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00, offering lending services and free access to resources.
The collection includes 45,000 maps dating from the 16th century and 130,000 posters documenting Geneva's social, cultural, and political evolution.
