Lac de la Gruyère

The Lake of Gruyère extends 13.5 kilometers between Bulle and Fribourg, reaching depths of 75 meters and covering 9.6 square kilometers of water surface.

The Rossens Dam, completed in 1948, created this water reservoir with a height of 83 meters and a crest length of 320 meters across the Sarine River.

The water body shares its name with the surrounding region, which maintains traditional practices including the production of local alpine cheese varieties.

Multiple recreational activities occur at the lake throughout the year, including swimming, sailing, fishing in summer and ice skating during winter months.

The Ile d'Ogoz, located within the lake, contains remnants of a medieval castle and chapel that survived the reservoir's creation in the 1940s.
