Grandson Castle, Medieval fortress near Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland
The stone castle extends along a rectangular plan with thick defensive walls, corner towers, and a central courtyard overlooking the waters of Lake Neuchâtel.
The fortress, dating from 1050, gained recognition during the Burgundian Wars when Swiss forces defeated Charles the Bold and captured the castle in 1476.
The castle holds regular exhibitions in its halls, displaying medieval weapons, armor collections, and documents telling the story of Swiss military heritage.
Guided tours operate on Wednesdays at 12:15, 14:30, and 15:45, and on weekends at 13:15, 14:30, and 15:45 during the renovation period until 2026.
The castle incorporates an automobile museum within its medieval walls, creating a contrast between ancient architecture and modern mechanical engineering.
