Amthaus, Former Cistercian monastery in Fraubrunnen, Switzerland.
The Amthaus building stands at Bernstrasse with stone walls and architectural elements dating from the 13th century monastic period.
Founded in 1246 by Counts Hartmann of Kyburg, the monastery operated until 1528 when the Protestant Reformation led to its secularization.
The nunnery housed women from ministerialis families and Bernese burghers, representing the social structure of medieval Swiss society.
The building complex includes structures at Bernstrasse 1, 3, and 5, with remnants of a prison facility from 1823 still visible.
After the French invasion of 1798, the former monastery transformed into an administrative center for the Fraubrunnen district.
