Château with St. Alban chapel

The château complex incorporates both residential structures and the St. Alban chapel, featuring a broad Biedermeier façade oriented toward the valley.

Following its destruction by Appenzellers in 1405, the château underwent reconstruction, with major expansions completed between 1760 and 1763 under Muri Monastery ownership.

Baron von Lassberg transformed the property into a literary gathering place from 1813 to 1838, hosting writers including Ludwig Uhland and Jakob Grimm.

The château now functions as a retirement and recreational facility, providing accommodation and services for elderly residents in the Thurgau region.

The integration of the medieval keep into the 18th-century structure demonstrates the architectural evolution from defensive fortress to residential manor.
