Château with St. Alban chapel

This château is a residential complex in Erlen, Thurgau, combining living quarters with the St. Alban chapel, marked by a broad Biedermeier façade facing the valley. The buildings bring together elements from different construction periods within a unified layout.

Destroyed by Appenzellers in 1405, the site was rebuilt and underwent major expansions between 1760 and 1763 while under Muri Monastery's control. These changes reflect how the fortification transformed over time into a more residential character.

The chapel and manor have hosted intellectual gatherings and continue to serve as a place of retreat for the region's residents. Today, visitors can sense how the space still carries the memory of its days as a center for creative exchange.
