Stählibuckturm, Observation tower in Thundorf, Switzerland.
The Stählibuckturm is a steel lattice structure rising 26.8 meters high on a wooded rise near Thundorf. The construction features 148 steps that lead up to a viewing platform where you can see across the surrounding landscape.
The tower was built in 1908 and sits on a ridge shaped by ancient glacier movements during the ice age. The location had been valued as a viewing point long before the steel structure was constructed there.
The name comes from the Stählibuck hill where the tower stands, a location long familiar to the region. Today visitors and hikers gather at the top to enjoy the views and use the spot as a meeting place.
The tower is open at all times and free to visit. Parking spaces and barbecue facilities are located near the base, making it a good spot for a casual visit or picnic.
On clear days, visitors can see across multiple countries from the platform, stretching from Vorarlberg through the Swiss Alps to the German Black Forest. This far-reaching view makes each visit feel special and shows the geographic diversity of the wider region.
