Schloss Wartensee

Schloss Wartensee is a stone castle positioned on elevated terrain near Lake Constance, comprising several connected sections. The complex centers on a main building with extensions toward the west and south, creating a spacious layout that takes advantage of the lakeside setting.

The original structure was built in 1557 by Kaspar Blarer von Wartensee, a bailiff serving the diocese of Constance. Later renovations, particularly in the 1920s, transformed the interior and introduced modern comforts to the aging building.

The place is named after the family that once held power here and shaped its surroundings. Its location by the lake and remaining rooms reveal how local rulers displayed their wealth and status in this region.

The castle functions as a hotel with an organic restaurant serving guests year-round, accommodating individual travelers, families, and seminar groups. Its elevated position offers good views of the lake, and the property is accessible to visitors of varying mobility levels.

A historic Persian glaze bath installed in 1929 remains preserved within the castle walls and reflects the tastes of an earlier wealthy owner. This rare bathroom fixture dates from an era when exotic bathing styles became fashionable across Europe.
