Cantonal library of the Basel-Landschaft, Public library in Liestal, Switzerland
The Cantonal Library of Basel-Landschaft is a public library in Liestal offering books, digital resources, and media materials spread across multiple floors. The structure is a converted wine warehouse that has been renovated to serve modern library functions.
The building was constructed in 1924 as a wine storage warehouse and served this purpose for many decades. A complete renovation into a library facility took place between 2003 and 2005 under the direction of architects Liechti Graf Zumsteg.
The library serves as a gathering place where regional authors and artists find an audience through regular programs. Visitors experience local literary culture through readings, exhibitions, and workshops held throughout the year.
Visitors can access digital catalogs online and manage loans through the library system without visiting in person. Study areas and collaborative spaces are available throughout the building for different working styles.
Inside the library operates the Caffe Livro, a reading cafe where visitors can browse current newspapers and magazines. This integrated space allows people to combine refreshment with their reading in a single setting.
