Karlstor, Medieval gate in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

The Karlstor features a stone structure with crenellated parapets and stands as the last remaining gate of eight original fortification entrances.

The gate, built in 1570, received its name from Cardinal Karl Borromäus of Milan who first walked through this entrance during its inauguration.

The Karlstor entrance marks a strategic point in St. Gallen where trade routes intersected, controlling the flow of goods and people into the city.

The medieval gate stands in the center of St. Gallen, with multiple bus connections and pedestrian paths leading directly to this historical structure.

The gate represents the sole preserved entrance point of St. Gallen's medieval defense system, maintaining its original Renaissance architectural elements.
