Castelmur Castle, Castle and museum in Stampa, Switzerland.
Castelmur is a baroque manor house in Stampa built in 1723 as a patrician residence and later expanded in the 19th century with Gothic towers. The architecture blends Lombard and Venetian Gothic styles in its extensions.
Giovanni Castelmur purchased the Redolfi house and commissioned Milanese craftsmen to transform it, including engineer Giovanni Crassi-Marliani and painter Gaspare Tirinanzi. This artistic partnership shaped the building's appearance for generations.
The castle houses a historical archive documenting the valley's past and displays about pastry chefs from Graubünden who spread their craft across European cities.
The rooms are open to visitors from June through October, with extended hours during summer months and guided tours on site. Mobile audio guides are available through smartphone QR codes for self-guided exploration.
Many visitors overlook the detailed trompe-l'oeil paintings on the walls that optically expand rooms and create illusionistic depth. Combined with colored wallpapers and carved wood paneling, these elements create hidden visual richness throughout the different rooms.
