Lueg, Mountain summit in Bern, Switzerland

Lueg is a mountain summit near Bern that rises to about 887 meters elevation. The area is crisscrossed by hiking paths that wind through forests and past streams, offering views across the surrounding Bernese uplands.

The Lueg pass linked the Bernese Mittelland near Wynigen with the Emmental at Affoltern. On the Heiligenlandpöli, about 890 m, a Hochwacht kept an alarm fire ready in wartime. In 1921 a monument by Karl Indermühle was inaugurated here for Bernese cavalrymen who died in the 1918 Spanish flu; some 20,000 people and 2,000 mounted cavalry attended.

The name Heiligenlandpöli refers to the hill's highest point, about 890 m, where a Hochwacht alarm fire was lit in wartime. Since 1932 the Bernische Kavallerie-Offiziersgesellschaft foundation has maintained the cavalry memorial, and each year a wreath is laid at the Luegschiessen shooting event.

The hiking trails are accessible from spring through autumn, with designated parking areas at main entry points. Clear signage marks the different route options, making it easy for visitors to navigate the mountain.

The summit is called Heiligenlandpöli and, at around 890 m, is the highest point of Affoltern im Emmental. A Hohwacht once stood here, where an alarm fire was lit in wartime; the Lueg pass below links the Bernese Mittelland at Wynigen with the Emmental.
