Mannenberg, Mountain summit in Ittigen, Switzerland
Mannenberg is a mountain summit in Ittigen that rises to approximately 690 meters. It features forested slopes and offers views across the surrounding landscape.
The mountain was quarried during the 19th century to extract stone for buildings throughout the local area. This extractive activity shaped the landscape and supported regional development.
The mountain area includes underground passages from the 16th century that served as water sources for the local communities.
The area is accessible via several hiking trails that connect to a nearby transit stop. These paths accommodate visitors of varying fitness levels and offer different routes through the forested landscape.
A water reservoir built in 1906 was designed by engineer Robert Maillart with an innovative mushroom roof structure and five collection basins. This construction represents an early example of modernist water engineering in the region.
