Monbijoubrücke, Road bridge in Bern, Switzerland

Monbijoubrücke is a 337.5-metre-long and 23.5-metre-wide prestressed concrete road bridge over the Aare in Bern. It links the Monbijou quarter with the Kirchenfeld quarter and carries Hauptstrasse 10 from Les Verrières to Lucerne.

The prestressed concrete bridge was designed by Hartenbach and Wenger and opened on 8 September 1962 after two years of construction. It carries Hauptstrasse 10 across the Aare between the Monbijou and Kirchenfeld quarters. In 2022 and 2023, one lane in each direction was replaced by a bus lane, and a traffic management system was introduced.

The bridge takes its name from the 1775 country house Mon Bijou located at Monbijoustrasse 5/7 nearby. This naming reflects the local history and connects the structure to the residential character of the area.

The bridge has walkways on both sides for pedestrians and cyclists. Since 2022, vehicle lanes were converted to bus lanes, so the layout has changed for car drivers.

The bridge is part of Hauptstrasse 10, the road running from Les Verrières to Lucerne, so through-traffic between western Switzerland and central Switzerland crosses the Aare here. In 2022 and 2023, one car lane in each direction was replaced by a bus lane, and a traffic management system was introduced to control motorised traffic.
