Monbijoubrücke, Road bridge in Bern, Switzerland
The Monbijou Bridge extends 337.5 meters across the Aare River, connecting the Monbijou and Kirchenfeld quarters with its prestressed concrete structure.
Constructed between 1960 and 1962, the bridge emerged during a period of infrastructure development in Bern, designed by engineers Hartenbach and Wenger.
The bridge derives its name from the 1775 country house Mon Bijou, which stands at Monbijoustrasse 5/7 in the adjacent neighborhood.
In 2022 and 2023, the bridge underwent modifications where vehicle lanes were converted to dedicated bus lanes in both directions.
From the bridge's walkway, pedestrians can observe the southern facade of the Federal Palace and the Old Town of Bern.
