Rose Garden Bern

The Rose Garden Bern sits on a hilltop in Schosshalde and displays over 200 rose varieties arranged in organized beds. From this vantage point, visitors can see the Aare River and the Old Town below, while the garden is divided into several themed sections.

The site was transformed in 1918 from a former cemetery into a public garden, marking a turning point in Bern's urban development. This shift allowed the city to create a green space that served both as a place for rest and as a symbol of change.

The garden serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors experience the changing seasons through blooming flowers. The maintained pathways and seating areas invite people to spend time outdoors and absorb the surroundings at their own pace.

The garden is accessible by bus line 10 to the Alter Aargauerstalden stop. Restrooms and small food facilities are available on site, and the various pathways allow visitors to stroll at their own pace regardless of fitness level.

Many visitors overlook the quiet reading nooks and small pavilions scattered among the rose beds. These pockets of space allow you to sit in silence and examine the flower shapes and colors up close.
