Rigiblick funicular, Hilltop funicular in Zürichberg district, Switzerland
The Rigiblick funicular is a cable railway on the Zürichberg hill measuring 385 meters long with five stations along the route. Two cars carry roughly 30 passengers each and operate every six minutes.
The railway opened in 1901 and received new steel cars during the 1950s to replace the original wooden ones. A major extension of 80 meters was added in the late 1970s.
The funicular links residential neighborhoods with recreational spaces on the hillside. It serves as a daily connection that locals rely on to move between different parts of the city.
The ride takes about two minutes and connects with tram lines 9 and 10 and trolleybus route 33 at the lower station. Passengers can exit at any of three intermediate stops depending on their destination.
Passengers can choose their desired stop like in an elevator rather than following fixed routes. This flexibility makes the ride particularly convenient for visitors exploring different locations on the hilltop.
