The museum spans two main buildings connected by an underground passageway, featuring 50,000 items including sculptures, paintings, and historical artifacts.
Founded in 1774 by Tobie Gerfer, the institution received its official status as a museum in 1823 and resides in a 16th-century Renaissance palazzo.
The collection displays regional artworks from medieval times to present day, including dedicated galleries for glass-working and sculptor Adele d'Affry's creations.
The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00, with extended hours until 20:00 on Thursdays, and charges 10 CHF for adult admission.
The museum garden contains monumental sculptures by Swiss artists Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle, with sun loungers available for visitors.
