Musée de l'Aviation Militaire de Payerne, Military aviation museum in Payerne, Switzerland

The Musée de l'aviation militaire de Payerne, known as "Clin d'Ailes", occupies two exhibition halls beside the Payerne military airfield, on the territory of Morens. It holds ten aircraft and two helicopters of the Swiss Air Force from the second half of the 20th century, from the Vampire and Venom to the Hunter and Mirage III, alongside simulators, engines, weapons and ejection seats.

On 19 November 1994, militia pilots founded the association La Cinquième Escadrille to save a Hawker Hunter from scrapping after Armee 95 retired the type and disbanded Escadrille 5. The Hunter J-4078 was handed over in 1995 and stored for seven years in a former joinery at Arnex-sur-Orbe. On 10 March 1999 the association created the Fondation du musée de l'aviation militaire de Payerne, chaired by Claude Nicollier; the museum opened on 25 April 2003 and a second hall followed on 1 May 2015.

The name "Clin d'Ailes" (a pun meaning roughly "wing wink") was chosen in 2002 by a youth competition; the winner was 12-year-old Bastien Bornand of Arnex-sur-Orbe, and graphic designer Robert Rausis created the logo. The collection spans from the Vampire to the Mirage III, tracing Swiss military aeronautics of the second half of the 20th century. The Vampire Trainer U-1211, in service from 1958 to 1990, carried cameras and appeared in numerous films.

The museum stands beside the military airfield of Payerne, on the territory of Morens, in two exhibition halls. The Mirage III DS flew during one-week periods two to three times a year until 2023, and the Mirage simulator SIMIR has been demonstrated since 2004. Check opening times before travelling, as access follows the airbase setting.

The two-seat Hunter Trainer J-4203 flew as a civil aircraft under the registration HB-RVW from 18 May 2004. Between 2004 and 2014 it carried about 500 passengers with pilots Claude Nicollier and Raymond Clerc. One passenger was Apollo 16 moonwalker Charles Duke, allowed to sign the aircraft.
