Gymnase intercantonal de la Broye is a secondary school south of Payerne, on the edge of the residential districts, opened in August 2005. Its campus includes a library, the 350-seat hall L'Aula, a 100-seat conference room, 40 computer rooms, the exhibition space L'espace de la Blancherie, a gymnasium and a fitness room.

The idea of an intercantonal gymnasium, the first of its kind in Switzerland, emerged in 1991; a feasibility report followed in 1994 and a joint working group was set up by the Vaud and Fribourg state councils. In May 2000 the councils approved a credit to buy the land and buildings, and in December 2002 they ratified the intercantonal convention creating and running the school. On 18 May 2003 voters in both cantons approved the 70 million franc construction credit; the building went up from 2003 to 2005, the first students arrived on 29 August 2005 and the official inauguration was held on 30 September.

The school's exhibition space, L'espace de la Blancherie, hosts student work; the name Blancherie refers to a bleaching or laundry site, not a former laundry inside the school. Students from Vaud and Fribourg mix here, and the school closes on both Protestant and Catholic holidays.

The campus is located near Payerne and is best reached by local bus or car. Keep in mind this is an active school site where classes take place, and it is not typically open for general exploration.

The school sits in an area where students crossing the recruitment zone pass through cantonal borders between Fribourg and Vaud multiple times. This geographic oddity makes the inter-cantonal partnership necessary to serve both sides.
