Happyland, amusement park in Granges, Valais, Switzerland
Happyland is an amusement park on a 25,000 m² site at Granges in the canton of Valais, between Sion and Sierre on the banks of the Rhône. Its attractions include the Splash River rafting descent, built by Mack Rides in 2008 and 18 metres high, the Nautic Jets, the Big Swing with its nine-metre height and 100° tilt, the Tropical Track children's coaster opened in 2006, and the Mongolfieres balloon ride with 23 seats.
Otto Matter and his wife opened the park in 1988 with a few small cars, small boats and a train. In 1990 the site was enlarged and 1.5 million francs went into new rides; a further 5 million francs in 2006 added family attractions, among them Switzerland's highest and largest white-water ride. The park was put up for sale in summer 2015, and in 2017 Nicole and Michel Carron, owners of Labyrinthe Aventure, bought it.
The park opened in 1988 under Otto Matter and his wife, initially with a few small cars, small boats and a train. In 2017 Nicole and Michel Carron, owners of the Labyrinthe Aventure park, took over Happyland. The name appears in large green letters at the entrance, next to two cartoon figures, one yellow and one green, raising their arms before blue splash shapes.
Visitors can reach the park via the A9 motorway and the Sierre-Ouest exit or take trains to Sierre followed by bus lines 1 or 2. Plan enough time to explore since the grounds contain numerous separate zones.
The park opened in 1988 with five children's cars on a track and five bumper boats, backed by an initial investment of 3 million francs. A 1990 expansion added 1.5 million francs of new rides, and 5 million francs in 2006 brought Switzerland's highest and largest white-water ride.
