Schloss Weinfelden

Schloss Weinfelden is a castle built on a high slope south of town, where it commands views across the surrounding land. The oldest part of the structure dates back to the 12th century and remains the recognizable core of the building today.

The castle was founded when the Kyburg family controlled the region, and in the 12th century it became linked to the church leadership in Konstanz through shared rule. This division of authority between nobility and clergy shaped the area's development for centuries.

In the 1970s a banker oversaw a major restoration project that deliberately brought the castle back to its 18th-century appearance. This careful reconstruction helped preserve an important piece of Swiss architectural history.
