Château Vennes, Château in Lausanne, Switzerland
The Château de Vennes is a large baroque house in Lausanne, Switzerland. It has pale rendered walls, a steep tiled roof, a square tower with a pyramidal roof, and climbing plants covering much of the facade.
Jean-Abraham Meyn built the château in the late 18th century on the site of an old manor house. Over the following decades, it passed through many owners and was sometimes used as a school or institute.
The name Vennes comes from the old local area, and the château is a landmark for residents of the neighborhood. Its facade, covered with vines, changes with the seasons and is often photographed by passersby.
The château is in a residential area north of Lausanne, so the best way to see it is on foot or by bike. The building is private, but you can admire its exterior from the street and enjoy the surrounding trees and views.
The château was built in two phases, and the second phase likely added the farmer's house, now called La Grange. The architect's name remains unknown, which adds a bit of mystery to the site.
