Sacred Heart Church, Catholic church in Buchs, Switzerland

Sacred Heart Church (Herz Jesu) is the Roman Catholic parish church of Buchs SG, built 1964–1965 to plans by Zurich architect Justus Dahinden. The modern concrete structure replaced an 1896–1897 neo-Gothic church whose 240 seats could no longer hold Sunday congregations of up to 320. Bishop Joseph Hasler laid the foundation stone on 23 August 1964.

The first Mass after the Reformation was held in Buchs on 6 April 1890 in the Hotel Rätia. A mission station founded on 21 June 1894 built a neo-Gothic church in 1896–1897, and on 11 November 1898 Bishop Augustin Egger made Buchs an independent parish, its first pastor Johann Künzle, later known as the herbalist priest. The present church by Justus Dahinden replaced that building; Bishop Joseph Hasler laid the foundation stone on 23 August 1964.
