The Kaufleute-Stube, also called Kulturhaus Obere Stube, occupies two originally separate halves of a house in Stein am Rhein's old town. The merchants' guild rebuilt the eastern half in 1469, creating a large hall with a vaulted plank ceiling on the first floor. In 1496 the western half was joined to it, requiring a large beam supported by a sandstone pillar inscribed "anno domini 1496", which still stands. Around 1681 the upper floors were renewed, adding the guild room on the second floor and a uniform timber roof.

The merchants' guild had the Kaufleute-Stube, first mentioned in 1448 as the kauflüt trunkstub, rebuilt in 1469, creating a large hall with a vaulted plank ceiling on the first floor. In 1496 the western half was integrated, requiring a large tie beam supported by a sandstone pillar inscribed "anno domini 1496". Around 1681 the upper floors were renewed, and in 1744 the entrance hall was remodeled with a second beam on columns and grisaille paintings.

The Kaufleute guild had its drinking parlour, the kauflüt trunkstub, first recorded in 1448; the guild hall and guild parlour on the upper floors now host permanent and semi-permanent exhibitions on historical themes, while the rear building shows temporary exhibitions. Guided tours are offered in six languages, and the house takes part in the Museumnacht Hegau-Schaffhausen and International Museum Day.

The Kulturhaus Obere Stube stands in the old town of Stein am Rhein, a short walk from the Rhine bridge and the town's main squares. The building is entered from the street through the historic entrance hall; the guild hall and guild parlour are on the upper floors. Guided tours are offered in six languages, and the house takes part in the Museumnacht Hegau-Schaffhausen and International Museum Day.

The building holds regional cultural protection status and displays rare wall paintings from different periods that have been carefully preserved during restorations. These painted surfaces offer glimpses into the artistic tastes and prosperity of guild members across several generations.
