Tänikon Abbey, Former Cistercian monastery in Aadorf, Switzerland.

The abbey complex includes the former monastery church of St. Bernhard and several conventual buildings near the village of Ettenhausen.

First mentioned in 789 as Tanninchova, the site transformed into a nunnery by 1249 and received significant land grants from local nobility.

The monastery played a central role in agricultural development, combining religious practices with farming activities that influenced the surrounding region.

The buildings now house Agroscope, the Swiss center for agricultural research, and remain accessible for architectural study and historical exploration.

Emperor Louis the Pious allocated the lands of Tänikon to the Abbey of St. Gall in 817, establishing a connection between these religious institutions.
