Novartis-Pavillon, Public exhibition building at Novartis Campus, Basel, Switzerland
The Novartis Pavillon is a circular exhibition building on the Novartis Campus featuring an innovative media facade made from 10,000 solar modules and 30,000 LEDs spanning two interconnected levels. The building integrates a multimedia theater area within its structural design.
The building resulted from an international design competition in 2017, where AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi were selected for the project. It represents a contemporary addition to the campus, designed according to modern architectural principles.
The permanent exhibition Wonders of Medicine presents scientific breakthroughs through multimedia displays created with Novartis researchers and international artists. Visitors encounter how medical progress is communicated through interactive installations and artistic perspectives.
The ground level features flexible spaces for events and learning activities, along with a café where visitors can gather before exploring. The building is fully accessible, allowing comfortable movement through all areas.
The facade is powered by organic photovoltaic cells while simultaneously displaying artistic animations visible from the Rhine River. This combination of sustainable energy generation and visual art turns the building into a light show visible from the riverside.
