Yangshuo County

Yangshuo County is an administrative county in northeastern Guangxi that encompasses limestone mountains and valleys intersected by rivers and waterways. The area combines dramatic natural topography with towns and villages clustered across the territory.

For most of its history, the county remained a quiet agricultural region until foreign backpackers discovered it in the 1980s. This discovery sparked rapid tourism development that transformed the local economy by the following decades.

West Street in Yangshuo Town serves as the main hub where locals working in shops and restaurants regularly speak English with visitors from around the world. The street shows how the community has adapted to international tourism while maintaining its commercial character.

The area is accessible by high-speed trains from major cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen, or by buses departing from Guilin. Getting around locally is easy with bicycles and motor tricycles available throughout the region.

The karst landscape is featured on China's 20-yuan banknote, capturing a specific view from Xingping village along the Li River. Visitors often recognize this familiar image when they encounter the actual location during their journey.
