Ningxia, Autonomous region in North-Central China
Ningxia, officially known as the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is a landlocked province-level autonomous region in northwestern China.
Historically part of Gansu province, Ningxia was incorporated into Shaanxi province in 1929. In 1954, it became an autonomous region.
Characterized by its significant Hui Muslim population, Ningxia is rich in distinctive cultural practices and traditions.
It is one of the smallest provincial-level jurisdictions of China, and one of the least populous.
Ningxia is noted for being China's primary region for the cultivation of goji berries.
