Taishan, County-level city in Jiangmen, China
Taishan is a county-level city in southwestern Guangdong province within the Jiangmen region and serves as an administrative division. The city spreads across a large territory subdivided into smaller administrative areas that together form an integrated urban network.
The city was founded in 1499 under the name Xinning and received its current name in 1914. It gained county-level city status in 1992, marking an important step in its administrative development.
The local dialect shapes everyday conversation and community interactions among residents, while Mandarin appears in formal settings. This language difference is noticeable in markets, shops, and neighborhoods where the traditional way of speaking remains part of daily life.
The railway station connects the city to other major cities through high-speed trains with regular services to Guangzhou and neighboring regions. This connection makes it easy to reach from other parts of the country.
About half a million Chinese Americans have roots here and often return to reconnect with family and heritage. This strong transnational network has made the city a bridge between China and the Chinese diaspora abroad.
