Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery, Revolutionary cemetery in Shijingshan District, Beijing, China
Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery is a burial ground in Shijingshan District, Beijing, China. The grounds span several terraces with tree-lined avenues, memorial plazas, and a central building used for ceremonies.
The location originated on the grounds of a Ming-era temple that once housed retired palace eunuchs. After 1949, the grounds were converted into a burial site for figures who played roles in party and state history.
The site takes its name from the Eight Treasures Mountain and provides burial plots for individuals considered contributors to the revolution. Visitors today see memorial walls and maintained paths between different sections organized by the rank and role of the deceased.
The grounds lie north of West Chang'an Street and can be reached on foot. Visitors should dress respectfully and keep quiet, as it remains an active burial site.
Four United Nations peacekeepers who died in the 2010 Haiti earthquake were laid to rest here. This international connection shows the role of the site beyond national borders.
